You asked, we listened! Bioskin Hand Sanitiser

At the moment we have been advised to wash our hands regularly, for at least 20 seconds to prevent viruses and bacteria spreading to other people and objects. We are also advised if we do not have immediate access to soap and water then use alcohol-based hand sanitisers.

However, for individuals with particularly dry skin or skin conditions, such as eczema, psoriasis or dermatitis, excessive hand washing can result in skin damage and sore hands. Even individuals with healthy skin can experience this, overuse of soaps and hand sanitisers can cause the skin to dry and crack.

Here are some tips we want to share:

  • Wash your hands with soap and water, then moisturise
  • Use alcohol-based hand gel, then moisturise
  • Moisturise hands regularly
  • When washing dishes or using cleaning products use gloves to protect your hands
  • After washing your hands, pat with a disposable paper towel or tissue
  • Do not rub hands dry

Many of the antiseptic washes and antibacterial washes are quite harsh on the skin. In general, the antiseptic ingredients are not needed for proper hand hygiene if you use proper technique, for example washing your hands with soap for 20 seconds and using warm water.

Keep taking care of your hands during these challenging times. We have all now learnt how incredibly important it is to wash your hands regularly. Unfortunately, as we are now also all finding out, washing our hands regularly dries them out quite badly. On top of that, when suffering from already dry hands, using products like hand sanitisers or synthetic-based hand washes can really challenge the skin further. Our loyal customers have for years now used our Bioskin Zeoderm Skin Repair Moisturiser to support their hands.

Our Zeoderm cream contains many natural ingredients that can help relieve itchiness and soothe any irritation. Ingredients such as Jojoba Oil and Linseed oil are two powerhouse ingredients gifted from nature that can make a dramatically positive difference when battling challenged skin. The one ingredient, however, that stands out the most for us and what makes Zeoderm so unique, is the volcanic mineral Zeolite (yes, that is where Zeoderm gets its name from!).

Also, we recommend using our Bioskin Body Wash for your hands. Our body wash is a natural wash to gently cleanse the dry, itchy and sensitive skin

A little Tip from our Managing Director: "When suffering from dry skin, use our Body Wash as a Hand Wash to soothe and hydrate your skin even when washing your hands. We now know for definite how incredibly important it is to wash our hands regularly, however for those of us with dry hands, using synthetic-based washes or sanitisers can further dehydrate the skin, making it itchy and uncomfortable. I just decanter the Body Wash into a refillable Hand Wash pump and my hands are very grateful for it!"

We also have an exciting announcement we are launching a Bioskin Hand Sanitiser.

Over the last few weeks, we have been asked many times if we could produce a natural, skin-friendly hand sanitiser. Unfortunately, it is very hard/impossible to produce a hand sanitiser which effectively kills bacteria without using some form of alcohol - an ingredient we normally, of course, don't really use as it can dry out the skin (except for all those fatty alcohols of course!). We have therefore worked very closely with our team to try and create a Hand Sanitiser for you all that still has a level of skin-friendliness for all those with extremely dry hands.

Our Hand Sanitiser uniquely also contains Lavender and Tea Tree, which as you all know, are wonderful natural ingredients to the dehydrated skin. Please do bear in mind, however, that our Hand Sanitiser does still contain Ethyl Alcohol to ensure it kills those bacteria, so if you have broken skin - please be careful that it does not sting too much (and use our Zeoderm to help your hands with the dryness!).

We have worked tirelessly with our production team to get this product on the market as soon as possible. Our aim is to start shipping the first batch of Hand Sanitisers end of next week - from the 27th of March. Please bear with us as we try and get the products with you as soon as possible. You can already start placing your orders now, so we can ship you the Hand Sanitiser the second it comes into our warehouse.

If you are looking to find a skin-friendly Hand Wash in the meantime, consider buying our Bioskin Body Wash, which is also very suitable for sensitive hands.

Stay safe everyone!
