Skin boosting ingredients for dry, eczema prone skin
Autumn is almost here and with the change in temperature, your dry, sensitive and eczema-prone skin can begin to flare up. We know it's crucial to prepare your skin for the upcoming cold weather as soon as possible; after all, preventative measures are always better. September marks National Eczema Week and it got us thinking about how you can boost your skin's health and strengthen it just in time for autumn. Here at Salcura, we believe in a holistic approach and that what we eat is just as important as what we apply to our skin. We fill our products to the brim with natural oils and extracts to ensure your skin gets as many nutrients as it needs, but some of those key ingredients can also be a tasty and refreshing part of your diet to boost your skin from within.
Chamomile Essential Oil (Anthemis Nobilis Oil)
We start off with the ingredient that is known to be the most beneficial for eczema sufferers. Chamomile can calm the skin if suffering from infection and redness. Essential oils such as chamomile are really good for the skin as they penetrate to the deeper layers. This gentle ingredient is commonly enjoyed as herbal tea to encourage restful sleep and it can also soothe the digestive system. A cold chamomile tea bag can also be used directly on your skin. The cold compress is well known to be beneficial for itchy and irritated skin.
Sea Buckthorn Kernel Extract (Hippophae Rhamnoides Kernel Extract)
Sea Buckthorn is a key ingredient in our products as it helps to heal wounds caused by eczema and can repair irritated skin. Sea Buckthorn promotes healthy skin as it contains Omega-3 and Omega-7, is rich in antioxidants such as vitamins C, A, and E and contains beta-carotene, minerals and amino acids. If you're a regular in health stores, you may find this refreshing berry in jams and juices. The seeds can also be powdered and used to make smoothies! Fun fact: We have been using Sea Buckthorn Kernel Extract since the very first time we started producing Salcura products all those years ago.
Sweet Almond Oil (Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil)
Did you know Sweet Almond Oil is a little powerhouse of nutrients for the skin? Vitamins A & E, fatty acids and minerals like zinc and potassium are all present in Sweet Almond Oil. These are able to deeply moisturise and nourish the skin. Many eczema treatment options and skin moisturisers contain the oil as its helps relieve the itchy and stinging feeling. If you are looking to boost your skin from within, consuming almonds can prevents skin dryness as they contain linoleic acid. You can find sweet almond oil in both our Bioskin DermaSpray Intensive and Bioskin DermaSerum.
Aloe Vera (Aloe Barbadensis)
Aloe Vera is a natural remedy that soothes and hydrates eczema-damaged skin. The plant contains antioxidants, immune boosting and wound healing properties that can help the patches and broken skin heal faster. Aloe Vera is known to give a refreshing taste as well as a refreshing feel to the skin. Because of its unique taste, many people tend to take advantage of the sweetness and flavour it adds in drinks. Aloe Vera is used in many of our products because of the refreshing feel it brings. It prevents infection and heals wounds, whilst preventing scarring.
Linseed Oil (Linum Usitatissimum Seed Oil)
Linseed oil, also known as flaxseed oil is very beneficial when it comes to healing eczema scars and treating inflamed skin as it has strong anti-inflammatory properties. The oil will ease your symptoms of swelling and itchiness. Flaxseed oil has a light nutty flavour and is therefore great for salad dressings. It can also be used for baking cakes, cookies and muffins as it improves the texture and adds nutrients. Consuming linseed oil can also lead to fuller, shinier and healthier hair and stronger nails. Because of its effectiveness and great properties, we added this ingredient to our Bioskin Zeoderm.
Olive Oil (Olea Eeuropaea Fruit Oil)
It's no surprise that olive oil is a key ingredient that boosts your skin. The oil has been used in skincare for centuries. It also rich in vitamins A, D, E and K, all amazing for skin in need of nutrients. It is also known to have moisturising and soothing properties. Although olive oil is generally considered to be healthy, large amounts of it can feel really heavy on the skin and may cause breakouts, which is why we always make sure to blend it appropriately in our products.
Green Tea Leaf Extract (Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract)
The Green Tea Extract is full of powerful antioxidants called catechins, particularly EGCG (Epigallocatechin Gallate). In studies, EGCG has been shown to be 25 to 100 times more potent than vitamins C and E in terms of antioxidant activity. These plant compounds help reduce skin irritation, skin redness and swelling. You can replace your tea and coffee in the morning with green tea. The tea also gives a nice glow to the skin as it helps prevent dryness, so it's no surprise we add it to our Bioskin Face Wash and Bioskin Body Wash.
Get your skin nourished and moisturised with our Bioskin and Bioskin Junior Range and don't forget to add these delicious and beneficial ingredients to your shopping list.
