Tips and Skin Saviours for Acne-Prone Skin

Acne is a skin concern that many of us suffer with all year round and for many years. Acne commonly starts when we head into our teenage years but unfortunately it doesn’t always stop there and can follow us well into our adulthood, or occur at a later (or earlier) life stage. If you have acne-prone skin, you might find that the warmer weather can trigger acne flare ups, putting a damper on your fun-filled summer. Unfortunately, there is no one clear path to saying goodbye to acne forever but there are many things you can do to support your acne-prone skin and keep those breakouts to a minimum.

Water, water, and omegas..

It might go without saying but water is key to supporting healthy skin no matter the skin concern. It is recommended that you drink 1.5L to 2L of water a day. If you are not used to drinking water, aim for a liter and build up to larger amounts. Remember that many fruits and vegetables are packed with water, so they count too! If you’re not a fan of water, herbal teas can also support your hydration goals.

In the summer we can get dehydrated even quicker so its vital that you keep your hydration levels up. When our skin is lacking that important moisture, our skin can start to work overtime to protect our skin, for acne prone skin this might mean higher levels of sebum production. You know your body best and although there are many foods that could impact your skin directly, we generally recommend high levels of fresh fruit, protein, and healthy omega fats. Did you know according to research from Cosmetic Business, low levels of omega 3 fatty acids could play a crucial role in acne breakouts. In this regard, omega 3 fatty acids appear most promising due to their anti-inflammatory effects. Omega 3 fatty acids are primarily found in food such as algae, nuts, seeds, sardines, and wild salmon, and are known to reduce inflammation by stimulating production of anti-inflammatory prostaglandins E1 and E3. So don’t be scared of those healthy nuts!

Skin saviours…

Sometimes we can be quite harsh to our acne prone skin and use harsh irritating products to treat it. It might seem like something strong is needed to fight the acne, but you could be doing more damage. For a gentle and effective acne skincare range try our Antiac Range. Our award-winning acne range offers an effective remedy for anyone suffering from acne, blemishes, pimples or black and/or white heads. Packed with Omegas 3, 6, 7 & 9 and Vitamin E, this range gently and effectively cleanses the skin without drying or stripping the skin of its natural oils. The Daily Face Wash leaves your skin feeling hydrated and refreshed, rather than dry and tight, which can happen when you use certain chemical treatments for acne. If you need a more potent treatment use our Activ Liquid Spray to give great coverage and soothing over a broader area, such as your cheeks and forehead and use the Activ Gel Serum to target spots fast when you see them and prevent them from getting worse. The Serum is best to get the maximum strength of treatment, targeted at a specific area.

A little extra help…

SPF protection is vital all year around but especially in the summer months and even more so when you have acne prone skin. Acne can cause hyperpigmentation and scaring. So don’t skip on the SPF before heading out ! The higher level of SPF the better protection for your skin. Try our sister company Rosalique 3 in 1 Miracle Formula, it has been especially designed for facial redness and it’s non-comedogenic, meaning it wont block your pores! Plus, it gives you SPF50 protection! Lastly, you might not realise but small changes in things you use every day could also help. For example, try changing your pillowcases to silk ones. The material can be gentle on your skin and less likely to gather bacteria. Remember to wash them regularly and have a few extra sets.
